This has been a cool year for me, musically.  New band in a new city, playing live again – and new songs in the works.  But I’m especially appreciative of all the people who have been so enthusiastic about my song “Mariska Hargitay.”

To thank them, I’ve decided to donate 100% of my 2012 proceeds for Mariska Hargitay’s song to her charity, the Joyful Heart Foundation.  That will include all sales through the end of December 2012, so spread the word!  We’ve still got almost a month to go.

Couple of important points:

#1.  I won’t have my December sales information until March.  I will make the donation then.

#2.  I’ll do my best to make this as transparent as possible.  To the extent that I can maintain some privacy, I will make a reasonable effort to prove that all of the money that came in went to the charity.

#3.  Keep in mind that I don’t make very much money off of these sales.  This will likely be a very modest donation – but every dollar counts.  To give you some perspective (and to help you decide how you might like to purchase the song), here’s a breakdown of approximately how much money I receive for every download of “Mariska Hargitay”:

Bandcamp (best choice if you live in the US):  $0.85

iTunes (US):  $0.64

Amazon:  $0.64

International people (values depend on exchange rate):

iTunes Australia:  ~$0.88

iTunes Europe: ~$0.83

iTunes Canada: ~$0.64

Amazon MP3 rates vary similarly.

*Note about streaming:  it takes hundreds, sometimes thousands of streams on Last.fm, Xbox Live, Spotify, or iTunes Match to equal one (1!) song download!  So while I’m thrilled to see all the people streaming the song, for our purposes here it won’t do much good. :)

Anyway, my sincere thanks again to everyone who likes the song so much, and I hope that maybe some of you who haven’t bought it yet will take this opportunity to do so!

All my best over the holidays, and I’m looking forward to making this donation in the new year!
